• I'm Sonsira Espinal (SYE), a Dominican-Venezuelan visual artist—born in the Dominican Republic, raised in Venezuela, and shaped by NY City since 1995. My work lives at the intersection of identity, memory, and resistance. Through photography, especially portraits of women and self-portraits, I explore untold stories and emotional truths, using light and shadow as my language.

Photography is not just my medium: it’s my means of survival. Of reclaiming space, of honoring the power and complexity of women; especially those whose narratives are often overlooked.

 

Influenced by my roots and the pulse of the city that raised me, I’m constantly drawn to the raw, the vulnerable, and the bold.
